Saturday at work!

Our first professional development day for the new school year had Joel Klein as guest speaker. He looks so ordinary on TV and in the papers but is very engaging with vast experience and great attittude to what needs to happen in NYC and in education in the US. He described why he felt that the education system it needs fixing but also that it can be fixed. He had great praise for the work of our consultancy work. A principal also spoke, she was full of praise for the consultants who worked with her and helped her build her school's capacity to change.
We then walked to a rooftop bar on 5th Avenue and had a great lunch and chat to catch up on all we had done over the summer/ winter. most people had been home to Australia so we caught up on news of families and the start of the new school year here.
The views were sensational and even though it started to rain we were sheltered under giant umbrellas and it was warm and lovely to be outside.
The rain affected the views but gave a great grey ponderous look to the photos complete with reflection of the lens on the glass!

Celiea, I wish you would come to Florida and heal our schools. They are terrible!!! Not having had kids in the Florida system, I don't have a clue what is wrong, I just know we are putting out under-educated children. My outsider view is they spend too much time trying to get ready for the Fcat test and not enough regular teaching when if fact if they just taught they wouldn't have to worry about the Fcat. Oh well....

Loved the pic from the roof top. What a wonderful atmosphere it gave with the rain.
